To ensure that the Singularity Weblog forum runs smoothly, is a positive experience for all members, and encourages useful and productive dialogue, forum members are asked to adhere to the following rules of conduct:

1. Be respectful. One of the goals of this forum is to foster and maintain a virtual community that works together to further/develop discourse on the topic of the Singularity. Being respectful plays a crucial role in the outcome of this goal.  

2. Be courteous when disagreeing with others. Debating is a good way to develop ideas and allow others to understand the ideas you put forth. Please exercise self-awareness when opposing the views of others so as to be mindful of your behavior in doing so.

3. Please do not use profanity. The use of profanity reflects badly on the individual forum member as well as the forum itself. Please do not use profanity while writing on this forum.  

4. Please make an effort to avoid making those with divergent views feel unwelcome in discussion. The Singularity is a topic that spans a wide range of disciplines and appeals to people of a wide range of backgrounds. It is inevitable, therefore, that major points of disagreement will be held between members. To some extent, group generation and consensus of 'the best' ideas is a self-organizing system. Viewpoints inherently less 'useful' take care of themselves in that they get little attention from others and don't inspire further discussion. Being open minded and tolerant, while still critically minded, will help to expand our ideas on the subject, rather than restrict them to familiar modes and pathways.

5. No personal attacks on other forum members. Members who feel as though they are being attacked by another forum member should report to the moderator or administrator. 

6. No posting of pornographic, racially offensive, abusive, hateful or harmful messages. Posting messages of this sort will result in immediate banning from the forum.

7. Please do not 'bump' posts. 'Bumping' posts means adding minor changes etc. for the sake of ensuring that your post always appears at the top of the 'most recent' list.

8. Please stay on topic. If you feel the conversation taking a turn to something relatively unrelated to the topic thread, please start a new thread. This helps us to keep the site organized and makes ideas easier to find for those who visit less frequently. 

9. Please do not post advertisements unless for your own work in our "Shameless Self Promotion" section.
