Joining This Forum and Setting Up Your Profile

1. Joining This Forum

You need to be registered and logged into the Forum in order to comment. Click the Register link at the top of the page. This will take you to our Registration Policy page where you will find information on how to register as well as the privacy policy of this Forum. Once you have indicated having read and accepted the policies of this Forum, you will be asked to create a username and provide an e-mail. Take into consideration that the username you select here will also be your profile name, and the e-mail you provide will be the Singulati's primary method of contacting you. Your initial password will be e-mailed to you, so please provide an accurate e-mail address. 

2. Setting Up Your Profile

When you login for the first time you will be directed to your profile information page, where you are able to change your password. As a new member who has not yet posted, it is recommended that you change your password right away. We suggest you change it to something that has at least 7 characters, but is also something that is easy for you to remember. This is to avoid security issues regarding your account, and to make it easier for you to log in and out of the Forum. 

In addition to choosing a new password, there are a number of other ways in which you can personalize your account and add to your profile. 

a. Personal Identity

We encourage you to take advantage of your profile here by getting to know other members and networking with other Singularitarians. If you have a personal website, or a website for a company or project you are heavily involved with, let others know by filling out this section of the Personal Identity page. Also, you can write a short biography telling us more about yourself and your interests in the Singularity. 

b. Your Online Identity

Let members know other ways in which to reach you and stay in touch!

c. Personal Options

Customize your Singulati Forum experience by letting us know whether you'd prefer to be automatically subscribed to topics you post in, whether or not you want others to know when you are logged into the Forum, and which time zone you would prefer to see content displayed in. If you are unsure of how to set the time zone, click on the link below, 'Help and explanation of time zones,' for more information. User please note, it is preferable to us, and likely to you, that you allow others to see when you are online, as it gives the Forum a sense of livelihood and encourages communication.

d. Select Your Avatar

There are a number of ways in which you can select an avatar:

d(1) Select Remote Avatar

When choosing the 'select remote avatar' option, it is advised that you choose a link to a medium or small sized image, since choosing a large image will tend to slow down the time it takes to load your profile.

d(2) Upload An Avatar

When uploading an avatar, please not that the maximum file size for avatars of this kind is 20240 bytes (19.77KB), and that the file formats accepted here are GIF, PNG, JPG and JPEG.

*Please note: If you do not upload an avatar to your profile, the forum will select one for you.

e. Set up Your Signature

Your signature, should you create one, will appear automatically at the bottom of each post you make here on the Singulati Forum. One reason to set up a signature is to avoid having to sign your name every time you post. However, many use the option of a signature to express themselves with a quote or an image, or to provide information about themselves such as the company they own or work for, and contact information. in addition to being a great way of letting others know who you are and what you are up to, the signature function on this Forum offers many ways to express yourself creatively. We you to explore the many options presented in the toolbar, and feel free to update or change your signature at any time!

f. Set up Your Photos

In addition to your avatar, you have the option of adding an additional photo to be displayed in your member profile. As with the 'select remote avatar' option outlined in section d(1), choosing a link to a profile image that is smaller will tend to increase the speed with which your profile loads.
