Gamer movieGamer movie synopsis: Gamer is an action thriller set in the near future when gaming and entertainment have evolved into a terrifying new hybrid. Humans control other humans in mass scale, multi-player on-line games. Mind control technology is wide spread and first-person shooter game called "Slayers" allows millions to act out their most savage fantasies on-line in front of a global audience, using real prisoners as avatars with whom they fight to the death. Since Gamer raises interesting issues about future nanotechnology, mind control, brain hacking and freedom of will it may arguably fall within the implicit singularity movies group. Unfortunately, it seems that the movie aims to deliver first and foremost large scale action sequences rather than a great story line and an insightful techno-analysis. Thus, despite actors such as Gerard Butler, overall it fails to deliver a complete package of good story, great action and moving acting. Socrates' verdict: 6.5 out of 10
